History The use of doves can be traced throughout history. The early Greeks and Romans not only respected doves for their ability as message carriers, but for their affection that they show to one another. Doves build their nests together, and they mate for life. Through this, the dove came to symbolize peace, purity, fidelity and love. Doves have an important part in the Bible as a sign of peace and forgiveness.
